This symposium is an opportunity to hear from a range of speakers about current research and initiatives aimed at promoting a fairer criminal justice system for victims of crime.

It is open to all academics, legal practitioners and professionals working in the criminal justice and victim support systems in Victoria.

The symposium will be opened by the Honourable Robert Clark, Attorney-General and will include presentations from expert academics and professionals on a range of topics including:

  • The development of the role of modern prosecutor
  • The split between public and private interests
  • The role of the victim in plea bargains
  • The use of Victim Impact Statements
  • Court perspectives on victim participation
  • Experience of victim advocacy in other jurisdictions
